9V-SPR

Whoa... I didn't realize that you guys actually posted something until now... hah hah... I'll read and comment when I return to SIN.

For now... I am pleased to announce that I have finally hammered this bloody elusive stinker in AKL...

9V-SPR B747-4H6 SQ0286 AKL-SIN

Can't believe I came all the way here to AKL to shoot this beast. But then again... I've learnt over the past years that once you want something, just grab it... things come and go only once in your life and if you don't grab the one and only opportunity, it's gone forever. For the record, the lease of 9V-SPR is expected to end in May 2008, after which it'll start a new life with another airline in another livery.

I've always regretted not making a trip to Hong Kong's old Kai Tak Airport before it closed. Now that place is gone forever and dramatic shots of planes landing at that horrifyingly scary airport can't be taken anymore. Sob... anyway... glad that I skipped university lectures to go photograph the last flights of Concorde... and glad that I spent a bloody S$300+++ on a single-trip SIN-BKK flight on a Thai Airways MD-11...

OK OK... enough of my aircraft blabber and WAKE UP. Hope our PEK man is doing fine and our LAX gal is driving safely. For the guys in SIN... look forward to the arrival of 9V-SKA on 17 October 1830h. See you guys when I fly back on SQ286 tomorrow... (make sure tonight's SQ285 is 9V-SPR and DO NOT CHANGE AIRCRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Over and out.

Check in? More like check mate!

Time to clock my first entry!

Since Darren mentioned about passengers' handling, I will talk about counter duties! (Guess it's related) I abhor counter duties man!

1. I hate to play the bad guy, disrupting everybody's schedule just because marketing feels that it pays more to deny boarding or downgrading than to leave the seats empty. (But hey I am paid for thy purpose!)

2. When staff comes to you for solution and you have none to offer except to wait while you check further (guess its only wise that I perform more counter duties to resolve this issue)

3. When I really loved to help passengers but am totally clueless about how to go about doing it.

4. Relates back to point 4, the feeling of helplessness when you feel more like a liability than an asset.

5. I am speechless in face of angry passenger. I caught myself likening to a broken recorder, saying the same thing over and over again. I am clueless about when I should stand up and be firm with passengers while putting their "unreasonable-ness" to a halt or should I agree with passenger that my staff is in wrong, my airline is in the wrong and I should do all possible to resolve his problem (which could jolly well make me go against rules and policies)

6. See a side that I do not want to see from the people "up there".

7. In good times, every second feels like a minute.

Having said all the above, I guess the reason I am employed is because I am suppose to be able to handle all the above mentioned situations. Guess there are still alot to learn and hopefully I will be able to enjoy check in duties soon!

Last but not least, pictures below comprising all the contributors to this blog!!!!

The Exodus

Phooooo Weeeee! Time sure flies and now, one by one we're heading out! Joe's gone to beijing while Michelle is on the plane to LAX as I type this. Well I guess its just them and Bob for now since Kenrick, Reuben and I are still stuck here in good o'l Singapore. Not for too long I hope.

Good luck you guys who are out there now though I hear that our friends in China won't be able to read this coz of the ban on blogger by the government there. Whats up with that??

Oh and Bob has gone to Japan for a holiday. Again. He barely got married and already he's on his second honeymoon. I waved goodbye to him at F54 today while I was on duty doing the departure south wing. Yes, while I was on DUTY.

Which reminds me, ever wondered how you're on duty and then BAM! something happens with a passenger which requires the immediate attention of the DM. That really erks me. When we're out on our rounds, the ground staff always act like we're flies bothering them and then suddenly the walkie goes off "DM XXXX can you please go to gate XXX. The staff there needs your help" and when we get there its always, "eh boss, sorry ah, I don't know how to handle this"

But thats not what I wanna talk about, rather, its how we react to those extraordinary situations. I gotta be honest, whenever I'm in the shower, my mind is always buzzing on overload and conjuring up scenarios that can happen at work. And I ALWAYS have an amazing retort or sentence to say to a passenger for whatever reason they give at all. Be it at the check-in counter, at the departure gates or on board the plane! You name it and I'll settle it. But then when it comes down to it, when the passenger is glaring at you and demanding the 9 planets (or is it 8 now? I'm not sure anymore) those amazing pre-molded answers go flying out the window and is promptly minced up by the nearest rolls-royce trent engine on a Boeing. Instead, what comes out of my mouth is an unflattering, "Oh....uh....I see. Sorry". Well sometimes at least.

Thats not right. The passengers should be afraid of ME! They should be at my mercy since I determine if they are to get on the plane or not. In those few hours that they fly on the airline, their lives belong to me! Muahahahaha.

Right. Well it doesn't always happen that way. Most of the time I'm stumped coz I cannot fathom what the passenger wants anyway. Either that or I just cannot decipher what they are saying. Sigh, its the nature of the job I reckon. We get better at this with each passing day. Righto, time for bed mates! Hope y'all are having a great time! Later~
